2014 Gippsland Lakes Paddle Challenge

SUP VIC & Rps Theboardstore are proud to announce it’s support for the upcoming Gippsland Lakes Paddle Challenge. [Saturday May 3rd] This is the 3rd year that RPS and Sup Vic have supported this awesome event. There is a 13 km course Metung to Lakes and a more challenging 27 km course from Paynesville to Lakes.
This event is also race 4 of the Victorian Marathon Sup Series for those paddlers accruing points for the state series and a possible place in the Victorian team.
The race will primarily be a down-winder, with the organisers’ prepared to reverse the course if necessary should the wind forecast dictate it.
The Gippsland Lakes offer the paddler fantastic protected conditions in most conditions with the shorter Metung course being mainly flat.
Put this in your diaries, keep up your training and come and make this a fantastic weekend away

The Mad Paddle Plan

March 16, 2014

Background The Mad Paddle is a charity Stand Up Paddle event across the bay finishing at the Sandringham Yacht Club.  A “downwinder” is required on the day.  Estimated start time is around 5.00am from Sandringham Yacht Club where we will either head to Mornington or Portarlington, depending on the wind. With a potential distance of 33 kms, each paddler will be required to raise a minimum of $250 to participate in the event.  The idea is to have teams of two paddlers, one stronger paddler paired with a weaker paddler.  We have organised 9 escort boats from the Sandringham Yacht Club and the idea is we change paddlers as and when required.  That could be every ½ hour or 20 minutes, depending on the conditions. The event will culminate with a family BBQ at the Sandringham Yacht Club at the finish which is an opportunity to raise more funds with a vast array of live and silent auction items. We are inviting the community to support us by attending the BBQ and welcoming us in. We aim to complete the paddle at around noon. Registration Please go to:  https://madpad.gofundraise.com.au/cms/home Where it says paddling partner, if you haven’t organised one please put in TBA. There is an option to buy a couple of raffle tickets: 1st Prize                   Queen Bed hand made Quilt worth $1600 2nd Prize                 Original artwork by Michael Jenkins worth $1200 3rd Prize                  Adventure Paddling – 7’ SupSurfboard for kids worth $950 Keep up to date with news of the Mad Paddle by clicking on the Event in the SupVic Facebook page. Details of your paddling partner will be worked out by 13th March. There will be a full briefing on Saturday 15th as well as boards being loaded onto the trailers, ready for the early Sunday morning start. Purpose We are hoping to raise $30,000 for vital equipment needed for babies at the Sandringham Hospital and to purchase a defibrillator for SupVic.

Inverloch Surf Weekend

The Inverloch weekend is a surf oriented social event which has been going now for 4 years.
It’s a chance to introduce new people to surf and allow them to try out demo boards from a few shops that bring their fleet down.
There is no official surf comp, more of a general expression session with prizes awarded at the end of the weekend to the standout surfers.
There will be BOP races on the Naish Nisco boards this year which will be run in and out through the surf if conditions are right. If the surf is too rough it would be moved to the inlet.  This is not to be missed as it is so much fun on the blowup boards.
There will be a BBQ Saturday night at the SupVic house for everyone as well as lunch on Sunday.
You must be a member to participate, for insurance purposes, but a day membership can be purchased for $10.
